Makalah Utama mewakili Rektor Seputar WCU(World Class University) oleh Marsigit

UNY leading to an international university has been implementing various programs in year 2 (two). The programs are developed off potential activities that have been owned, either individually or institutionally, to strengthen institutional UNY towards the international level (WCU). Activities include sending lecturers to follow short-course abroad, to acquire skills in the field of teaching content through Classic and earned the International Certificate for teaching in the International Class. In addition it is also very important taken is to build networking with universities and research centers around the world, so what has been generated by community UNY both academic study and research of various fields of science that fostered UNY can be beneficial for the world community.
Also has implemented a program for increasing the ability of faculty to develop models and methods of international learning, improving English language skills of faculty and students, including encouraging the achievement of high scores on the TOEFL and IELTS. It also has carried out various international activities both at the faculty level and at university level in the form of the International Seminar on the WCU, the National Workshop on RSBI. No lag, also has conducted English language training for employees and study visits abroad. Was encouraged self-improvement, both educational institutions and the quality of its education programs, research productivity and quality of international standard, increasing the quantity and quality of the lecturers, (academic qualification and area of ​​expertise), increased excellence and leadership on all fronts, as well as support facilities in all faculties and supporting units of international standards.
To support the program UNY towards World Class University, it has been initiated embryos international study program that began with lectures held in English, at least one course in each study program. To support the above activities, UNY also conducts innovative programs for the Department of English Language Improvement Program Preparation Programs and International Level. The number who are prepared to Prodi Prodi Prodi as much as 9 internationally. Each faculty was asked to select an international study program, so that each faculty rationed a study program which will be funded from this inovarif program. Subsequently, three other Prodi will competed at the university level. In 2009, it has opened 2 (two) international class of Mathematics Education and Accounting Education. Every year, targeted to open new international class by using the instrument selection, visitation and direct dialogue to mengetahuai readiness Prodi opened the international class. The program emphasized the preparation of an international department to department activities to increase the quality of both human resources department and infrastructure. This activity did not rule out the activities that support increased international language.
Increased activity WCU English through programs intended to improve English language skills for students and teachers. This activity is also carried out in conjunction with an innovative program areas I, which includes lectures include bilingual, English language courses for lecturers and students, the establishment of Home Club majors, and many more. To further introduce the English language for academic society UNY, one way to do is write down every name board using two languages, namely English and Bahasa Indonesian. In this way deemed to be more easily accepted and understood by every academic society UNY.
To support programs and socialization WCU, has also been published WCU Handbook in English, which contains the Vision and Mission UNY, Blue Print to the WCU UNY development, as well as a 5-year and annual programs. We had already held the procurement of new reference books to support classroom lectures internationally. Activities that have been implemented in 2009 were: Delivery lecturers to follow short-course teaching content through Classic; Planting MoU foreign universities; Development WCU web site; Preparation of an international pilot study program; Development of student learning assessment instrument bilingual classes; Development of content special education web site math and accounting education; international research publications; Exchange of students of international class with overseas partners; English course for faculty and students; Writing an article for the publication of an international research; Preparation of model / handouts supporting international class lectures; Development methods and models of classroom learning international English Language Training for administrative staff and comparative studies; Provision of stimulants on classroom lectures internationally; international seminar on the WCU; National Seminar and Workshop on SBI / RSBI; Procurement of new reference books for the international class; Development and production of an international curriculum; and Use of guest lecturers from abroad to provide general stage.
From Mr Marsigit view, In the implementation of the WCU program for 2 (two) years following was found as a conclusion and suggestions:
1. The ability of English lecturer in international class still needs to be improved
2. Students need to be given wider opportunities to improve English skills.
3. Explored and developed the need for more intensive to establish cooperation with partner universities.
4. The need to fill or follow the MOU has been agreed with partner universities.
5. For professors still rerlu enhanced ability to research and publish
research results in international journals
6. Existing information systems still need to be improved, including the development of bilingual Web
7. The need for increased frequency of communication or cooperation between lecturers UNY
with faculty partners.
8. Realized the need for joint activities (joint activity) either individually or institutionally.
9. The need for support facilities and administrative staff to support the activities of WCU

10. The need for support and understanding among all civitas UNY in looking at the need for WCU.
11. The need for communication and socialization are constantly about the nature, direction and purpose WCU.
12. The need for formal support and foundation of the university on the development of UNY
to the WCU.
