A. Introduction
I have to say that become a teacher is not a job but it is a choice. Several people may think that teachers indeed sacrifice a lot of time to educate their students well. Yes it is true, but the problem is that not all of the teachers make their sacrifice worth for both of teachers and students. Actually, all of undergraduate students who want to become a teacher study about how to manage teaching learning process of mathematics from the beginning of the class until it end. You will never know how complicated is until you learn or work on education system.
As for me, having this mathematics education as my major make me realize that the teachers actually have a huge responsibility to uncover students skills and capability so that they can find their passion and they could, in the future, survive in this world. We never know what the future brings and we, the teachers, have to prepare them well. That was not an easy job though, but it is challenging.
It is been already known that mathematics is a major of all subjects in education. It is because mathematics improves almost all aspects of the brain such as logical thinking, structured mind, cognitive scheme, affective skill and so on. In order to get it right, teachers should know how to develop the teaching learning process of mathematics well. There are quite process to proceed if you want to start a good class with good result.
Furthermore, I would gladly explain about what the teachers should do to develop teaching learning process of mathematics. The source of this paper came from Mr. Marsigit English class. He, once had shown us interesting video about develop teaching learning process of mathematics in Japan, which is really great and make me realize that not all of teachers lost their sense of becoming good teacher by not noticing important points.
This paper is made so that someday I, or more people who wants to be a teacher, will not forget and lose its sense to make a better teaching learning process of mathematics by understanding what lesson plan, student worksheets, small group discussion, various interaction, common teaching methods, student reflection, cognitive scheme, students conclusion, apperception, assessment, various media and various teaching aids are.
B. How To Develop Teaching Learning Process of Mathematics
1. Lesson Plan
Lesson plan is teacher’s details about all of main instruction for one class. It will explain on how manage time and materials for one class because every class has their own characteristic. Teachers should frequently make this lesson plan each day for each class so that it could help teachers teach in the right track.
Obviously, lesson plan contains several main points such as title of the lesson, time required to complete the lesson, list of required materials, list of objectives which maybe behavioral objectives, instructional components, summary, analysis component, and so on.
Teachers could creatively make lesson plan as long as they are not ignore the standard competence and basics competence which made by government. This is a very important part to begin a good class. However it doesn’t mean that the teachers could not make any spontaneity action in the class but it will be much better to make a lesson plan before she/he teach in the class in order to avoid confusion and stay focus.
2. Student Worksheet
Student worksheet is one of teaching aids that will be given by the teacher in the beginning, center or end of the class. It is contain the material of the subjects to help students improve their skill. It has a lot of benefit for both teacher and students, for example:
· One of alternative way for teachers to direct the teaching learning process.
· Increase student’s skill to solve problems and teacher’s skills to create another worksheet.
· It will help the teacher to inform the materials for the students by giving them hints on student worksheet.
· It will help student to construct their own definition to understand some material.
· It will help student to remember the previous materials by collecting worksheets.
· It will help the teachers to record student’s activity and doing further assessment.
3. Small Group Discussion
Small group discussion is an activity that was planned by the teacher as their teaching methods by dividing whole class into groups which contain more than two students to solve some problems. In this matter, students could discuss about how to solve some problems that given by their teacher.
The teacher also should expect how long that discussion will take to solve the problem by considering students skill and with help of teaching aids so that the teacher could decide the time limit.
By implement small group discussion, student will have open-ended meeting with their friends that help them improve their social skill. It will be better if the teacher gathered active student with passive student but let passive student explain result of discussion later. The point is that the teacher should know each student’s skill and divide them well so that students could experience different problem with different students because it will help them a lot in the future when they’re about to build a social network.
4. Various Interaction
There are lot of various interactions teachers could apply on a class but there are three main interactions such as whole class interaction, teacher-student interaction and student-student interaction.
Whole class interaction is a condition where the teacher is the center of the class. Teachers communicate with all of the students. The students in this case, are obviously listening to teacher well, but it is possible to student to ask or give some feedback to the teacher about the lesson.
Teacher-student interaction is another condition where the teacher having individual interaction with student. It could happen during small group discussion for example by help student directly in each group or ask which one is difficult. This interaction will help the teacher understand more about each student’s skill and capability, help the student get more understand about the material and also could grow the relationship between teacher and student stronger.
Student-student interaction is about single student interact with another student. It is commonly happen during small group discussion that I have explained before. This interaction is as important as another interaction because it brings a lot of benefit to the students for social skill.
