The reformation movement in Indonesia is an anticlimax of a state where moral values in the political, legal, social, economic decline very sharply in a period of more than three decades. Society and the Indonesian people are now entering the third millennium faces a tough challenge in all aspects of life. Various events that took place 2 (two) last year showed that most of the components of the nation is not ready to face the era of globalization, some other people doing experiments which sometimes leads to a state of double implication is worse: but that is not better is that most of us was not going to know where our nation headed? Meanwhile, prolonged monetary crisis facing the nation Indonesia showed that thedevelopment that was launched during the new order has resulted in the powerlessness of the people in the political, economic, legal, social, cultural and even including education. Various reports indicate that the economic crisis has been very adversely affected the performance of our education; higher dropout rates, enrollment rates decline, and the ability of parents to participate to provide facilities and teaching resources (books) are also declining.
Ready or not ready for the Indonesian nation is faced with the fact that the era of globalization requires improving the quality of all components of the nation in various fields of life. Rise and fall pattern or trend of the global educational issues came to the conclusion that the present era and the future is the era of the mastery of science, technology, especially information technology and communications. Indonesia new open, democratic and united should be able to put themselves into the social arena of the world through the mastery of information technology competition. This trend will have implications for patterns of behavior and the transformation of people's lives, so that educational development paradigm has at least two ends of the catch and the future. Keep pace and meet the future, for the nation of Indonesia has a population of about 200 million people with various backgrounds of ethnic groups, is a big job, that therefore it is not possible any educational policy initiative in the hands of the center. Regional autonomy, including autonomy in education is time implemented in an honest and straightforward; should not only be a political issue to dampen regional turmoil. Information technology and communications means openness and thus the transparency, openness and participation will be a dominant issue in the development of education. Transparency, openness and participation will provide new segments for events and community activities as well as the creation of labor by community initiatives. Thus the paradigm of education should give a wide open space for public participation in its various forms, professional development, open management, lifelong education, awareness of learning, skills diversity and fairness in competition.
Thus the role of teachers has also experienced a shift from a teacher who serves as a conduit of knowledge to serve as facilitators in the learning process. Schools need to be developed as a multi-purpose for the development of the subject personality learners and thus paradigm of schooling in the present and the future is that the school is subject berkiprahnya laboratory for students to develop themselves. The new paradigm of education development in Indonesia should always be assessed and redefined by Indonesia which has the ability to flexibly and dynamically to fit the circumstances surrounding and can estimate the policies in the future. Learning from Western countries, the development of education in Indonesia may reflect itself into pole-pole pattern of educational development through field studies paradigm: the politics of education, educational philosophy, views on scientific, or moral values, social theory, theories on the subject of students, ability, evaluation, resource teaching / learning, and culture. Interaction and communication between segments of the nation will give perspective to the front of where this nation is going.
The point is that national educational reformation can be done at two levels ie at the macro and micro. In the macro, national education reform must be able to renew the vision and develop the educational paradigm and completely eroded the constraints of education while maintaining and improving the quality and professionalism and empowerment of communities towards the New Indonesia Indonesia is an open, democratic and united. For a practitioner of education (teachers), educational reforms at the macro level for a few things are beyond the scope of his thinking and his ability. But considering teacher education is a critical success, then teachers can play a role object and subject of education reform by improving the ability to educate and manage the classroom. But the highest math scores is if it can be used systemically for wider interest. But the values of mathematics that is developed should be coupled with critical thinking because mathematics is none other than critical thinking itself. Nevertheless there are still other values are related to levels of quality.
At first the quality of math scores only appear on the outside, but on the quality of the second and third and so on then the value of mathematics is metaphysical. A teacher can reflect the style of teaching is good and flexible if the teacher is concerned to master the ways of organizing the classroom, teaching use of resources, achievement of the goal of teaching students according to ability, development of evaluation systems, the handling of individual differences, and the realization of a particular teaching style according to the needs .
